Canadian singer-songwriter, DJ and producer, Myla just released a new collaborative EP with Toronto electronic producer, Dafusia, who originates from Chennai in India. The EP entitled Werk It Out by Myla and Dafusia is now available on all digital music retail. There is a video on YouTube for the title track Werk It Out.
The EP combines elements including pop and electronic fusion, nu-wave soul, trip-hop, indie pop, world, RnB and jazz. Their lyrics reflect stimulation from their life journeys and offbeat inner conceptions.
In the Canadian city Toronto in 2009, Myla first broke onto the electronic music scene under her real name Mandy Ebel, produced by Srihari Sridhar – previously working as Hawri and now known as Dafusia – with their vocal dubstep single Take Your Mind. This collaboration was first known as as Hawri ‘n’ Mandy and their debut EP called Yuga One followed in 2010.
Myla has won acclaim for her vocals, songwriting and creative productions and is currently based in Regina, capital city of the Canadian province Saskatchewan.
Myla has performed with Canadian popstar Kiesza, who she was on the Contemporary Music and Technology program with at Selkirk College in British Columbia, Canada, where she first met Dafusia. Myla completed diplomas in Vocal Performance and Music Production and Engineering. Srihari Sridhar graduated with a Triple Diploma in Piano Performance, Composition, and Music Production.
With a passion for diverse musical genres and world travel, Myla was drawn to Dafusia’s middle-eastern roots conveyed in his keyboard playing and production skills. Towards the beginning of their collaboration the pair went on a trip around India where they studied Indian music and culture and recorded with local musicians.
In 2009, Myla was recognized as one of eleven graduates in Canada to receive CTV Global’s first Fred Sherratt Award co-ordinated by the directors of the JUNO Awards, supported by Much Music, Toronto’s CHUM FM Radio and the Hard Rock Cafe.
Myla was awarded for her solo songwriting in the Mike Pinder’s Songwars in 2010, as well as receiving an honorable mention in Billboard’s International Songwriting Competition. In 2012, Dafusia and Myla were nominated for Best Electronic Act in the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
As well as completing three tours of the Canadian club circuit, Myla has performed at festivals in Canada including World Electronic Music Festival in Northern Ontario, Connect Music Festival, electronic music festival Phantasm and the Regina International Film Festival.
Myla has worked recently with Canadian artist, DJ and electronic music producer Sara Simms on a dance house track to support graphic novel The Future Prophecy, also produced by Dafusia. While continuing to collaborate with Dafusia, Myla is set to release electronic tracks with Matt The Alien and Stickbubbly and finishing her folk soul rock fusion solo album during 2016.
Myla and Dafusia release their EP and title track single Werk It Out on Truespin Records.
“Anyone following Toronto’s bustling Electronic music scene will want to keep a close eye on Myla and Dafusia!”
